Queensland book lovers are leading a new project to supply by books and educational resources to an underground Afghanistan book club. Here's how you can get involved, champion knowledge and fight the ban on books for girls. 

World Literacy Day opens a new chapter on Friday 8 September. Bring Books Back to Girls in Afghanistan provides girls in Afghanistan with access to digital books.

In a bid to support girls in Afghanistan, Queensland book lovers are setting out to provide books to those who have been banned from reading. 

The new Afghan Government banned books for girls. As fellow book lovers, we wanted to do something practical to support all the book lover women and girls in this country. 

"We've partnered with underground book clubs in Afghanistan to supply them with books and educational resources to foster girls' love of reading," says Rosario Aran, speaking on behalf of the group.  

Supplying books to an underground book club network in Afghanistan, the initiative have partnered with the World Literacy Foundation this World Literacy Day to support 3000 girls in Afghanistan. Driven to create on-the-ground change, the group aims to provide books in anyway they can.

Their only ask? For fellow Queenslanders to join them in advocating for girls in Afghanistan. 

"As a lover of books, l couldn't even imagine if l wasn't allowed to read books any more," stated Ms Aran. Could you?
