Say hello to the Gold Coast’s first Dendy Cinema

Rising from the site of the former Gold Coast Hospital in Southport is the exciting $550M Queen Street Village. And anchoring the new development is the Gold Coast’s first Dendy Cinema.

In excellent news for lovers of art house cinema, fiercely independent Dendy Cinemas opened a shiny new Art Deco-inspired 11-cinema complex on the Gold Coast on Thursday 26 May after more than seven years of planning and construction at the site.

Since 1940 Dendy has been renowned for showcasing a broad and diverse line-up of the best of Australian and international films, arthouse productions and specialised programming to suit a wide audience from students to seniors, art lovers, families and movie lovers of all ages.

Dendy Southport opened up with the high-flying ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which has garnered rave reviews 35 years after the original crossed our screens, and the animated cult comedy ‘The Bob’s Burgers Movie’ as well as three Australian titles, foreign language movies, a horror and films enjoyed by senior audiences.

Also showcased are titles from the Dendy Arts program, which encompasses the very best theatre, opera, ballet and world art events captured for the big screen. On now is the outstanding Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical, ‘An American in Paris’ as well as Art Exhibition on Screen – Pissarro: Father of Impressionism’.

Gold Coasters can take advantage of special discount days on offer every week, these offers include Budget Tuesdays, special seniors and students sessions or by becoming a Club Dendy member, as well as Reel Bubs, Dine with Dendy, Dendy Arts, film festivals and event hire.

It has never been a better time for cinema-goers to return to the movies after several years of disruption has now seen the release of an unprecedented number of major productions.

Coming up this year and not to be missed will be ‘Jurassic World Dominion’, Buzz Lightyear origin story – ‘Lightyear’, ‘Elvis’, ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’, global best-seller ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, just to name a few.

Through cinema locations in Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane, Dendy is known for being the home of quality cinema and will regularly host film festival events.

The Gold Coast’s diverse and cultural community will undoubtedly embrace the Dendy cinema experience and offerings. The Gold Coast was chosen as the location of Australia’s newest Dendy as it has demonstrated a growing artistic maturity bolstered by a thriving film industry and local appetite for global cinema and discerning programming.

The Queen Street Village is serviced by the G-Link light rail with the Nerang Street station on the doorstep as well as under cover and open-air car parking accessed from Queen Street. A range of restaurants and food outlets will be located on the ground floor along with a children’s playground, IGA supermarket, chemist and health and beauty services.

Opening night gala featuring ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ will be happening on Thursday 9 June. For movie information and session times visit dendy.com.au.
