Gold Coast artist Claudio Kirac will be showcasing his new works at Art-Work Agency in Mermaid from 9 April. It’s a solo exhibition entitled Starlight Eyes, encompassing pieces he has created over the last three years. Claudio is keen to bring a little sunshine and starlight to the Gold Coast during these trying times.
Starlight Eyes is Kirac's fourth solo exhibition and will be held at the newly established Art-Work Studios. This latest collection of works, also marks a significant milestone for the renowned local artist, it's been ten years since Kirac’s first solo exhibition. The new works explore both the joy and anxiety surrounding societal milestones, in particular parenthood. Working intuitively and combining various media, Kirac explores self-identity by drawing on notions of heartbreak, loss, love and hope. Change and metamorphosis are explored through mixed media drawings and large-scale abstract works that shift between nostalgia and the artist’s personal reflections on the present day.
In this monumental output of new work, Kirac has pushed to produce intense and shifting practical outcomes. A fresh studio space, located within Art-Work Studios, establishes a renewed context for the artist, as he realises a life-long vision of establishing a creative space in Mermaid Beach.
"After living on the Gold Coast and working in the creative sector here for more than 25 years, I’ve seen a real need for more accessible spaces for creative practitioners to make and share their works. Art-Work Studios aims to provide a much-needed platform for creatives to both make and exhibit, predominantly within the visual arts. We’re challenging the notions of a traditional gallery space, creating an environment that is highly flexible and can mould to the individual needs of the artist.” says Kirac.
Art-Work Studios boasts 300 square-metres of creative spaces – home to local creative agency Art-Work, as well as three artist studios, two photography studios and a 62m2 gallery, exhibition and event space. The space has been designed for creatives, by creatives and is available for photoshoots, events, exhibitions and creative workshops.
