We're looking for an enthusiastic Content Writer and Editor to join our small team of passionate local advocates!

Blank’s new Content Writer and Editor will be a key team member and one of the public faces of Blank. You will manage and create engaging and purpose driven content across all of Blank’s channels, with creativity and tenacity. Your enthusiasm for digital content will be pivotal in driving online audience growth, seeking positive and genuine, newsworthy local stories that ultimately result in highly engaging content for our readership. 

We're looking at someone with their finger on the pulse or the region and a keen eye for what's hot and happening locally. With a passion for music, arts and culture and a digital savvy approach, this role will be the eyes, ears and voice of Blank.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Produce, commission and edit content for Blank platforms including weekly e-edition, website and bi-monthly print magazine, with the ultimate goal of increasing reader engagement and number of readers.
  • Craft varied content including creating listicles, interviewing talent, writing reviews, creating advertiser content, adapting press releases and profiling local talent.
  • Have a finger on the pulse of the key issues, events and people in the Gold Coast community – especially arts, culture and music– to ensure appropriate coverage of live events, community news and lifestyle content.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media and PR contacts to generate a steady flow of stories.
  • Promote content on the website via social media channels, using engaging headlines, captions, images and video.
  • Take accountability for, and respond to, digital readership metric (website, Google and Meta) to gain a better understanding of reader trends and deliver content that engages our readers.
  • Working closely with all team members to ensure efficient and effective delivery of partners and advertising client content.

What we’re looking for:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a journalism, public relations or digital content role.
  • Proven experience writing content for a variety of channels and platforms.
  • Experience using social media to tell stories and drive traffic to websites. Email marketing and SEO expertise will be beneficial.
  • You don’t have to be an expert, but we are looking for you to have a passion for attending arts, culture, music and/or other community events on the Gold Coast
  • Keen eye for photographs that work for digital news and social media and ability manage image and photography assets. Photography and video content creation ability will be beneficial.
  • Experience with social media publishing platforms.
  • Work efficiently and effectively to weekly deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, flexible and proactive.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely.
  • Willingness to attend various events and functions as Blank representative (sometimes outside regular work hours).
