Saint Lane revs things up with ‘Crying in the Porsche’

There seems to be no immovable object which can halt the unstoppable force of Saint Lane.

His latest ‘sophomore’ album – ‘CRYING IN THE PORSCHE’ dropped on Friday 19 May 2023 and is a veritable roster of absolute bangers.

A slight shift in genres from his debut album, ‘i thought my name was cursed’, the opening track ‘Gold Revolver’ features Denny Hilder of Peach Fur.

The music video for ‘Gold Revolver’ was shot together with MonteeMadet in Charlotte’s Pass NSW, a beautiful, isolated backdrop.

The song was written from the perspective of James Brown during his divorce in 1988 - and the emotional contrast between his divorce taking place while his career was skyrocketing.

“I was going through a similar scenario as James Brown at the time I was creating the album,” explained Lane when divulging the inspiration for the track.

The classic artistic inspiration source – haunted by love lost.

This is not the only track on the album inspired by romance gone rogue. Lane’s secondary feature release “3:33” draws from Lane’s experience during “a casual entanglement with a young lady. Nothing serious, but pretty steady.”

Lane continues, “we used to watch lots of reality TV together and one day she got a text out of the blue from one of the cast of ‘Geordie Shore’, asking her out on a date.”

Lane laughed before adding, “She ended up going on the date and that was that. Left me for the ‘Geordie Shore’ guy.”

The album was created to be stripped back and raw. Not so much multi-million-dollar studios and mixing and mastering wizardry as his last album.

“You don’t need to travel to LA to catch the sound. I’ll record wherever there’s a microphone,” Lane says.

Lane describes this latest release as “a bit of a quest for imperfection. AI can make perfection in about 15 seconds. Perfect has never been more achievable.

"This album is all human. No soul lost to machines. Perfect gets boring.”

Saint Lane releases ‘CRYING IN THE PORSCHE’ with a distinct handicap compared to most other artists. Following the fallout of an ill-timed COVID joke, told from his fledgling podcast during lockdown, Lane found himself unceremoniously banished from all major social media platforms.

“I’m not allowed to run ads or anything,” he confirms.

This inhibiter of audience exposure only proved to further motivate Lane as he states: “All my songs have to be the hottest because I am totally reliant on other people’s recommendation, word of mouth and social media.”

Which seems to be working out fairly well, considering his music streaming numbers are in the millions.

The momentum isn’t slowing as Lane informs us, “I’m already working on the next album.”

Setting off for the New Zealand leg of the album tour on 31 June, you can catch Saint Lane when he’s back for a Gold Coast show on 17 June and Brisbane show on 8 July. Follow @lanethesaint for full deets.
