New music: November 2022

Hey November, it's new music time!

Eyesite Lift The Roof

Eyesite have celebrated their final weeks of year 12 in style with the heavy hitting, punk inspired belter ‘Don’t You Love Me’. Monstrous, fast paced guitar riffs, inspired vocals and thrashy drums set the scene for this angsty onslaught of the senses that dives into the frustrations of a young person trying to finish school during a pandemic. Again channelling early Silverchair vibes, the band are about to lift the roof off a bunch of local venues on a run of tour dates finishing up with a show at Gold Coast Schoolies Week. Check out their socials for all the dates.

Little Georgia Walk Through The Chaos

Local favourites Little Georgia are back with their first new music since 2020, turning up the amps for a powerful blues inspired number ‘Dressed In Gold’. Pulsating Rhodes piano and a rollocking drum rhythm set the gritty tone for this self-assured single while the wonderfully paired vocal harmonies tell a story a locked-down observer walking through the emotions and chaos of the past two years. You can catch the Little Georgia with band in tow at Dust Temple on November 4 before heading down the east coast for a run of shows through until the new year.

Pure Milk’s Timeless Brilliance

Loveable locals Pure Milk have released their fourth consecutive EP this month ‘Food Court Days’, a charming refection of the mundane joys and scuffles of adolescent youth. Six clever, guitar driven indie rock tunes are woven together beautifully with the help of Dylan Lindquist’s production and the timeless story telling of vocalist Lewis Nitschinsk. Highlights include the thrashy chorus of ‘Dreams On A Platter’, the lyrical stream of consciousness in ‘Men/I Despise’ and the Aussie twang of the closing title track. A brilliant body of work here from Pure Milk, best consumed as a whole.

City Over Sand Give The Green Light

Long standing Gold Coast outfit City Over Sand are on the cusp of releasing their first full body of work since 2016’s ‘Good Grief’ and have this month offered a final taste of their five track EP. ‘Green Light’ leans into the bands love of country music with the help of layered guitars and a warm Hammond organ sound while still maintaining their easy listening flow and undeniable pop melodies. Described by the band as a song written about “your life in the blink of an eye” it’s clear that every aspect of this track (from the lyrics to the production) was carefully considered, leaving space for every element to have its place. More beautiful sounds here from City Over Sand.

Saint Barae’s Punchy Album Teaser

Saint Barae is continuing to deliver his own blend of throwback electronic pop this month with the release of his brilliant new single ‘Boys Don’t Cry’. Produced by Jared Adlam, the track strips away some of the hyper pop elements of Saint Barae’s previous work without losing the strong emotional sentiment Barae is known for. The result is an upbeat, punchy number that mines the same vein as super hitmakers the The Kid LAROI and Machine Gun Kelly. Written about being strong enough to acknowledge that you’re not doing okay, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ is the second taste of Saint Barae’s forthcoming album ‘CRYBOY’.

Tully John & Liza-Jane’s Atmospheric Masterstroke

Tully John & Liza-Jane have delivered another atmospheric masterstroke here with their vibrant new single ‘Backyard’. Locally recorded with Tim Goodburn at Bignote Studios in Burleigh the track builds upon an intimate acoustic guitar and vocal, layering harmonies, roomy electric guitars, and pocket drumming to create a slow burning epic that should fit nicely into anyone’s Sunday chill playlist. Taken from an EP set for release in the coming months ‘Backyard’ is another step in the right direction from this talented local duo.

Ordley’s Impressive Debut

Ordley has come in hot this month with his euphoric debut single ‘so far so good’, described as an ambient house track that paints a naively optimistic picture of all things life. The soft opening builds organically into a wash of synths and a subtle backbeat before introducing a warbling bass resulting in one of the most tasteful EDM drops we’ve heard all year. A super impressive debut here from this new Gold Coast producer.

Mad Snax's Dance Explosion

Mad Snax have released their fourth consecutive banger for 2022 with the explosive, dance floor winner ‘Ghost’. Enlisting the help of fellow local musician India Dupriez on vocals, the track again uses a hypnotic, marching style rhythm and a steamrolling bass drum to build towards punchy synth led chorus that will slap you in the face. Skip your morning coffee and hit play on this bundle of energy.

Dani Teveluwe’s Dance Edge

Dani Teveluwe is continuing the momentum off the back of her recent EP release with an upbeat remix of ‘Sweet Summer Nights’. Working with WHARVES guitarist and Blue Fields producer Mike Watson the pair add a danceable edge to the track courtesy of washy synths, driving drum loops and hypnotic vocal effects. Drawing lofty inspiration from artists like Flume and Animal Collective the track is another musical sidestep for Dani Teveluwe, who is proving to be a true musical chameleon.

Hinterland’s Summer In The Country

Hinterland are offering up another shiny country pop single with their catchy new single ‘Strings Attached’. Teaming up with regular collaborator Stuart Stuart on production, the three-piece do well to showcase their individual musical talents of shredding guitar, soaring electric fiddle and commanding vocals while maintaining a cohesive sound that has earned them so much success in the past. Written to sit on top of your summertime playlist this country jam is undeniably fun and will be stuck in your head for days.

MDWS Inspires Deep Thought

MDWS (aka Callum McNab) is rising to a new level in 2022 with the release of his second consecutive world class single for the year ‘Find You’. Beautiful production complements the effortless flow of this slow burner, led by McNab’s unmistakable vocal behind a slinky/smooth rhythm reminiscent of Khalid’s 2017 super hit ‘Young Dumb and Broke’. Written about the state of the modern world being alone but together at the same time, the lyrical intensity is matched sonically to create an emotive piece that is sure to inspire deep thought.

The Goldhearts' Eco-Anxiety

The Goldhearts are back with another eco-anxiety themed 90s pop-rock anthem that is sure to have you clapping along while taking climate action. ‘Microplastic’ is jam packed with catchy vocal melodies, bright guitars and a popping drum beat that channels the band’s love for early pop/rock bands like The Go-Gos and Ace Of Base while still managing to hold an anti-establishment punk edge. Telling a fictional story of a fancy dinner turned medical episode The Goldhearts certainly have a unique but effective way of hitting home some serious truths.

Austin Mackay’s Heartfelt Fire

Fresh Gold Coast resident Austin Mackay has introduced himself to us this month with ‘Dancing Through The Fire’, his own take on Australian heartland rock created to get people on their feet. Powered by an upbeat arpeggiated synth the track features a host of intricate melodic hooks to create a spacious yet urgent sound reminiscent of The War On Drugs or Future Islands. Exploring the idea of two people holding on to a relationship that is inevitably falling apart, Austin Mackay’s ‘Dancing Through The Fire’ is heartfelt modern song writing at its finest.

Jake Murdoch Expands His Sound

Child prodigy Jake Murdoch (formally Jakeycakes) is continuing his musical progression with ‘Making It Easy’, a new single favouring a country twang over the blues inspired sounds of his previous releases. The feel-good track is once again dominated by Jakes guitar playing, layering six string acoustic sounds with a driving banjo to create a warm, easy listening number that would keep any campfire burning. Jake Murdoch has already developed himself as a strong local talent who will certainly be one to watch in years to come.

Alt Fiction’s Blast Of Colour

Alt Fiction deliver a blast of colour into your ear holes this month with their glistening new single ‘Why Are You Still Here’. Drawing influence from indie pop sensations The 1975, the track is jam packed with catchy hooks, from the popping bass and intricate guitar parts to the huge chorus and crunchy anthemic synth. Coming in at well under three minutes, ‘Why Are You Still Here’ is a masterclass in pop song writing accompanied by an equally bright and impressive video, all created on a shoestring budget from the band’s caravan studio by the beach.
