Brook Chivell’s High Octane Head Turner

René Le Feuvre’s Album Primer
René Le Feuvre is getting us primed for his forthcoming album with the smooth sounds of 'Ghost'. Described by René as “a spooky and fun take the courting period of relationships we call ‘the chase’” the single features silky production and playful hooks with a harmonic minor undertone that gives the track its edge. Accompanied by a simple yet effective video capturing the energy Feuvre brings to his music 'Ghost' will be the centrepiece on the young artist's record 'Telepathy' set for release later this year.
It’s Cowboy time for Salty Season
Gold Coast indie four-piece Salty Season have strapped on the spurs for their latest slice of jangly, guitar-driven alt-rock ‘ Cowboy’. A change in pace from their previous and more introspective release ‘Cali Eyes’, ‘Cowboy’ sees the lads let loose with a fun, twangy vocal line and super hooky chorus, leading into a funky bass drop and an absolute shredder of a guitar solo. All quality musicians, the Salty Season guys are channelling some definite Ball Park Music vibes on this latest belter, as well as some electro-surf-western vibes that are all their own. Richard Neil Channels His Roots
Richard Neil pulls at the heart strings this month with his anthemic, foot stomping single 'Hear My Dear'. Led by a driving acoustic guitar and backed by the sultry sounds of his band The Drunken Midnight Choir the track channels Neil’s Irish roots, featuring powerful vocal harmonies, yearning violin, banjo parts and the type of melodies that are built for singing at the top of your lungs. Lily Grace’s Nashville Adventure
Fresh off supporting Vance Joy at Riverstage and performing at Tamworth Country Music Festival Lily Grace has given us another pop-infused country track that will have you singing along within the first listen. Written about independence and putting your own values first the upbeat, guitar driven single 'Follow My Road' tells the story of Grace’s recent song writing adventure to Nashville. With a host of accolades and over a million streams under her belt there is no doubt that Lily Grace year old is performing well beyond her 17 years.
Gesticulations’ Unfiltered Pub Rocker
Gesticulations have thrown us yet another curve ball this month with the release of their fifth unfiltered creative body of work within three years, 'Terminal Adolescence'. Aptly described by the band as “a bass driven post punk pub rocker” the record sees the duo experiment with new sounds, introducing 90’s synths and drum machines while maintaining their knack of creating brutally honest stories through a dry satirical lens. Highlights moments include the playful opener 'Sideways', the industrial darkness of 'Kicks' and the pure punk rock nature of 'Swagger'. Another winner of a record here from Gesticulations.
Lyric’s War Cry For The Self-Conscious
After a seven-month hiatus, 19 year old producer / songwriter Lyric has returned with a guitar driven a war cry for the self-conscious and self-aware. 'outdated' is on trend with musicians like Willow and Olivia Rodrigo who have found recent success in combining modern production with the early noughties guitar pop sounds of artists like Avril Lavigne. Using the tough edge of her sound as a cathartic process Lyric has a more to say with string of releases scheduled in the coming months.
Buttered Raise The Bar
Gold Coast rising stars Buttered are gearing up for another bumper year with the release of their glistening new single 'Heroes'. Full of the heart melting soul/funk goodness that we’ve come to expect from the song writing duo, this latest offering adds fragments of RnB into the mix, influenced by the likes of Mac Miller and SG Lewis. Marking the first track that the band have completely written, produced and recorded in their home studio Buttered are on a creative role and their talent is seemingly endless.
TANISHA’s Groove Heavy Body Mover
Coming in hot with her first release of 2023, RnB/Soul artist TANISHA is sure to get your body moving with the groove heavy single 'Low Key'. Marking a slight change of direction TANISHA departs from her 90’s sweetheart vibes, inviting in more emotional and sassy version of herself which can well and truly be heard on this latest offering. Written about an addiction to the wrong person, 'Low Key' is the first of many of hard hitting tracks set to be released in the lead up to TANISHA’s forthcoming album later this year.
Hannah May’s Folk Pop Perfection
Local songstress Hannah May has delivered another brilliantly put together folk pop tune this month with the rollicking single 'Meet Me In The Middle'. Built from simple acoustic guitar the production and subtle introduction of layers transform the track into an epic sing-along ballad channelling the likes of Australian acoustic hit maker Vance Joy. Said to have performed on a stage almost every weekend for the past four years you’re sure to see Hannah at a venue near you, check her Instagram for gig details.
Shani Forrester & the MoonShip’s Earthy Debut
Shani Forrester & the MoonShip have introduced themselves to us this month with their earthy debut single 'Kissed An Angel'. Opening with a 20 second acapella part, the track slowly builds in intensity with the help of haunting electric guitars, tasteful drumming, powerful vocal harmonies and trumpet parts to top it all off. Drawing inspiration from the golden age of pre-digital music making Shani Forrester & the MoonShip describe their sound as a mix between blues folk and country pop mining from the same vein as early 2000’s bands The Waifs or The Audreys. Atticus Chimps Find The Perfect Mix
Atticus Chimps burst out of your speakers this month with their epic, distorted blend of stoner rock and guitar pop. 'High At The Sight Of You' goes hard with its dissonant Queens Of the Stone Age-influenced riffs but also channels The Beatles with its clever vocal hooks and call response chorus harmonies. Somehow managing to combine brutally tough musicality with non-confronting pop sensibilities, Atticus Chimps have found the perfect mix on this two and a half minute gem.
These Idle Hands’ Dark Coloured Bliss
One-of-a-kind Gold Coast alt-country outfit These Idle Hands cut straight to the bone with the heavy hearted storytelling and emotive country folk overtones on their latest single. 'Somewhere Else To Go' is a retrospective love song written through the lens of a working class Australian, reminiscent of the fine work of Paul Kelly. Yearning violin and beautifully subtle harmonies offset the rawness of the baritone vocal and rhythm section resulting in a thought provoking mix of dark-coloured bliss. Released as the first single from a forthcoming album we’re excited to hear more stories from These Idle Hands in the coming months.
Peach Fur Celebrate ‘Life’
Off the back of their 2022 collaboration with Saint Lane, Peach Fur continue their musical exploration with the slow-moving heart warmer 'Life'. Originally pieced together in under 15 minutes on a battered guitar with a missing string, the finished product still seems to carry the intimacy of it’s inception while overlaying the bands signature psych surf sound. Kent Dustin’s Indie Pop Slow Burner
Kent Dustin has hit the ground running this year with his indie pop slow burner 'No Parachute'. Already amassing tens of thousands of streams since its 27 January release, the track seems to be purpose built for your favourite “chill electro” playlist featuring ethereal guitar sounds, brooding vocals and a driving rhythm. Written and produced with a batch of new material by acclaimed Australian producer Robbie De Sa, 'No Parachute' marks the start of an exciting new direction for this local artist on the rise.
Chutney Break The Formula
After catapulting onto the national stage at the end of last year Chutney have gone back-to-back with the release of yet another beauty of a single 'Madeline'. Again keeping guitars front and centre the track begins with a hook reminiscent of early Red Hot Chili Peppers but goes on to complete the Chutney picture with swaggering vocal, an anthemic chorus and an epic 1:15 outro breaking free of the indie pop formula. Released alongside the announcement of an East Coast tour and an epic live video to boot, their single launch at Elsewhere on 21 April is set to be one hell of a party.
