Live review: Georgia Hoareau ‘Oh Well’ Single Launch | HOTA | Friday 16 September 2022

A cool Friday night in the Basement at HOTA starts with teen four-piece Parker. These lads are still in high school but doing some great originals with their youthful energy, hitting the right notes and giving us their own unique cover of INXS ‘Don’t Change’. Lead singer and songwriter Sam Lethbridge is just starting but someone to watch.

Next, Alex Sologon makes room for keyboards on stage with her band, she’s up-front singing and looking like a young Marilyn. Her songs are all about forgetting or not forgetting. ‘Falling’ is a song of optimism for love lost and found, inspired by the movie The Notebook, “I’m falling again for you”. In ‘Game Master’, Alex maybe “one step forward, one step back”, but in life, as in music, she’s charging full steam ahead.

Georgia Hoareau hits the stage for her sold-out single launch, opening with the cozy new track ‘4 Mins Away’.  Another unreleased song, ‘Winter is Gone’ is all sunshine, in tune with the change of season and warmer weather. Her golden tones and don’t-care-too-much attitude remind me of Regina Spektor. She’s passionate and growing confident, singing “I’m still thinking about you” while letting go.

A superb cover of Ariana Grande’s ‘God is a Woman’ was next, then Georgia rocking out with her strong vocals on the new single release ‘Oh Well’.

The infectious chorus hooking us into the breakup story “so call the hotel of heartbreak”. Throughout the show, Georgia’s lifted gently by her awesome band: brother Will on guitar, Harry J Hart on bass and harmonies and Jay Wolff on drums.

A fabulous ‘GIRL’ shows why she was a finalist in two GCMAs this year as does the yet-to-be released track ‘In The End’ with Harry J Hart providing harmonies to a beautiful pin-drop silent moment.

It was sweet to catch her on ABC Coast FM the next morning, at little husky in voice but bright as a button, not “lost in the thrill of it all”, but rather, moving onward and upward. Catch her in residency at Miami Marketta, the second Wednesday of every month.
