Big new sounds from Little Georgia

Little Georgia are hitting up the stage at Dust Temple this Friday in support of their latest track 'Dressed in Gold'.

Prepare to be awash in the sweet, sultry, soulful sounds of 'Dressed In Gold', the latest release by alternative folk-rock initiative, Little Georgia.

This rhythmic retro piece was composed as a form of reflection on the chaos and madness in the streets of the world’s cities in the wake of the COVID 19 lockdowns. Ashleigh Mannix and Justin Carter (Little Georgia) say of their new track, “it’s been an interesting time for us and we’re stoked to release 'Dressed In Gold!' For us this is shaking off the events of the last few years.”

The striking first hits of the electric piano keys, which serve to provide the steady rhythmic momentum felt throughout the song, were revealed by Justin to be somewhat of a lightning in a bottle moment. He happened to acquire a piano right before the borders closed and the world went into lockdown and struck “gold” in creating the permeating riff while teaching himself to play.

When Justin sent a rough recording to Ashleigh, she remarked, “mmm. We’ll have to release that one day”. Luckily for us all, that day arrived on Friday 21 October 2022.

With the duo’s soulful vocal harmonies interwinding between the fiercely authentic vintage instrument tones, it’s hard not to become entranced and enveloped into the bluesy, desolate vibe of the tune.

Ashleigh notes, “From the first demo, it stirred something. Took me somewhere”.

Justin adds, “We can tell instantly when it’s a Little Georgia song or an individual release. 'Dressed In Gold' was the first Little Georgia track in a while.”

You can practically visualise the glow and hum of the ancient tube amplifier through which the pulsating guitar solo weaves its way across the sonic landscape to deliver the sexy, raspy tone necessary to round out the journey from verse to chorus.

“Why try to replicate that vintage sound with modern stuff, when you can just use the real gear which could blow up at any minute?” remarks Justin of his choices of gear for both live shows as well as the studio.

“You need the right tools for the job!” exclaims Ashleigh.

“Tubes over microchips!” Justin interjects.

The tour for 'Dressed In Gold' has provided the perfect platform for Little Georgia to jump back on the road and start putting together some grand plans, now that the world has opened up again.

Following the steady success of their festival tour for their new release, Little Georgia are looking to "fire up for next year.” Definitely now that they’ve kicked out the jams to become match-fit again.

International shows may be on the horizon with the band setting their sites on a potential return to the US and even Europe. Of the last couple of years and their plans for the future, burgeoning, guitar-slinging highway ramblers, Little Georgia chime, “you never know what can happen.”
