Beloved Aussie rockers Grinspoon have announced their Easy Detention national tour, celebrating iconic albums Easy (1999) and New Detention (2002), with first ever vinyl pressings of both records set for release on Friday 8 September and available to pre-order now.
The tour will make its way around the country later this year in October and November, supported by Private Function and Cupid & The Stupids. Kicking off at Miami Marketta Laneway on 29 October, the tour will then swing through Hobart, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, and Newcastle, before finishing up at Astor Theatre Perth on 24 November.
Blank Street Press caught up with Phil Jamieson, Grinspoon’s front man to chat about their upcoming Australian tour, Easy Detention, and what fans can expect?
“We’re playing some great rooms, we have great bands with us. It’s super exciting getting to revisit our second and third albums for the tour. We’re having a lot of fun putting the set list together.”
Four years since their last tour, their fans response to the tour announcement has been overwhelmingly positive already.
“Get there early, and enjoy the whole show, our supports are incredible,” Phil tells Blank, thrilled about touring with their supports Private Function and Stupid & The Cupids for the whole tour.
Private Function is this visceral, punk rock act out of Melbourne, and are super entertaining, and Cupid & The Stupids are loud, distorted rock and roll garage, with some swung blues, ballads, and a tap-dancing percussive section.
For the first time ever, Grinspoon will be offering a VIP soundcheck meet & greet package, but here’s where the real magic happens: one lucky fan at each show will have the opportunity to join forces with the band, jumping up to perform a Grinners song with Phil, Pat, Joe and Kristian at soundcheck.
Phil made it clear that he wanted this to be a meaningful fan experience. “We want to make memories with people, make them feel valued. We have also made sure it’s a special experience, so there are limited VIP passes available. If we are going to do this, we are going to do it properly.”
The band’s passion for delivering a classic high energy Grinners show for their fans was evident from the get-go. Phil said fans can expect a great time, their favourite Grinspoon tracks, big energy, and the band bringing their all. The tour really is about making memories and delivering the best show possible for their fans.
