Voting for the Gold Coast Music Awards x Burleigh Brewing People’s Choice Award is now open and the public have until August 28 to cast their vote.
Decided by popular vote, the People's Choice Award winner will be announced during the 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards ceremony, to be held at HOTA from 12pm on Saturday 3 September.
The winner takes home a unique sculpture, which is commissioned each year by SWELL Sculpture Festival. This year, the People's Choice trophy artist John Anthony Forno has crafted 'Space Oddity No. 1' inspired by some of his favourite musicians.
"Music and art go hand in hand and both have such profound effects on my mental, physical and spiritual well being from the lyrics I identify with from my favourite artist to the resonance between my artwork and song titles, music plays an integral role in my life. Aside from the chill up the spine, certain music ignites nostalgia and has an uncanny ability to propel me back to my past, to my childhood and while not always smooth sailing music like Bowie’s Space Oddity and Elton John’s Rocketman transport me to simpler times," John says.
The Gold Coast Music Awards trophy represents a rocket, a signifier to the award winner of the effect their music as chosen by the people has on their listeners.
"The fuselage of the rocket is shaped like a microphone and painted in chrome sitting on an ignition cloud of glow in the dark green and placed within the rocket ignition smoke is the plaque for the winner. The sculpture is freestanding and will be moulded in vinyl resin."

About the 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards
The Gold Coast Music Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 3 September from 12:00pm-3:30pm at HOTA, Home of the Arts.
The Awards are held alongside SPRINGTIME Festival, taking place throughout the Surfers Paradise precinct from 2-4 September. Award celebrations will also include a Gold Coast Music Awards after-glow party presented by SPRINGTIME and held in the HOTA Lawn Bar, immediately after the Awards ceremony.
