Four reasons you need to check out this year’s Creekfest

Creekfest at Currumbin RSL is back for its sophomore year, with things shaping up to be bigger and better in every way.

Over 20 live performances will play out over the weekend, with both local and national artists taking to the stages. The festival boasts two outdoor stages set on the beautiful Currumbin Creek and is a family affair with local food trucks and pop-up bars from Balter and Brookies Gin keeping you well fed and watered.  This is not an event to be missed and we've given you the low down as to why you should block out your calendar for a weekend of live music and community on the Gold Coast.

1. It has a dream line-up

What’s a music festival without artists? This year Creekfest has gone all out in securing the best of the best to serenade you while you chill out on the picturesque Currumbin Creek. There will be something for everyone to enjoy with such a wide variety, and it’s a perfect way to discover the boatloads of young, talented artists that make up the Gold Coasts' live music scene.

If you love the chill vibes of the Gold Coast and can’t get enough of the sweet, sweet sound of an acoustic guitar accompanied by some honey-like vocals, then Alivan Blu, Angus Kaftan and Luke Pauly might be your best bet.

If you’re keen to sing along to some songs you already know, then Tahlia Rose will be there to serenade you with her unique covers and seriously stunning voice that will have you questioning whether you really ever liked the original version anyway.

Or maybe you’ve put your dancing shoes on, and you’ve come exclusively to boogie. Then Pure Milk, Nana’s Pie and Cheap Date are sure to put you in the mood to party.

Pure Milk are especially excited about getting back to their roots.

"Honestly, the location and backdrop are perfect. To be down by the creek on a clear winter's day, there is nothing better! We've spent many days in our youth floating in Currumbin creek, so to be able to play a show down there will just be perfect."

And last, but certainly not least, we have our headliners who have the talent and experience to send the festival off with a bang. Kim Churchill, Kyle Lionhart and Thirsty Merc all are veterans in the industry and to catch them at a ticketless event is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

2. It’s totally free

There are few places in the world where you can listen to this much talent, in such a beautiful location, all for free! That’s right, there are no ticket sales for this event. Just rock up prepared to have a good time.

Organisers have advised getting there early if you want to secure your spot, as places are limited. Luckily, if you’re a member of Currumbin RSL, you will be given precedence on entry.

Don’t stress though, there is still time to become a member before the event. Contact the Currumbin RSL for more details or head online to purchase their $5 for 5 years membership. Don’t forget to pick up your brand spanking new membership before the event!

3. Location, Location, Location!

There’s nothing quite like kicking back on Currumbin creek, with some tunes flowing over you and a Balter stubbie in hand. Everyone on the coast knows and appreciates how lucky we are to live in such a nature-rich environment, and adding some live music and community into the mix just makes it all the more beautiful.

To share the love and showcase how great the Gold Coast scene is, coax your buddy down from Brisbane or your mate up from Byron. Show them what we have to offer on the Gold Coast, and I’ll bet they’ll come back for more.

4. It’s great to support local

We've all had a rough couple of years, but no one really copped it like the arts. And if you’re anything like me, you missed the feeling of being in a sweaty crowd with your closest mates.

Showing up and giving your support, whether that’s clapping embarrassingly loud at the end of a local artist's set or buying a couple of Balter beers for you and some mates, means that the Gold Coast music scene gets to live another day. This festival is built from the ground up by local companies that make the Gold Coast a community rather than just a city and rocking up is the easiest way to say thanks. And hey, it feels good to get back to normal, right?

Creekfest 2022 is presented by Soundlounge and will hit up Creekside at the Currumbin RSL for three blissful days from 24 to 26 June. For more info on the event, head to creekfest.com.au
