Faces of the Gold Coast: Beckah Amani

Celebrating our people because people matter!

Writing in all its forms, appears to have one real focus... the love of the story, the craft, the journey. And I love this story. This is Beckah Amani. She recently scored two wins at the2021 Gold Coast Music Awards. The performance of her winning song 'Standards' left everyone in awe.

"I started my music career busking. I realised the power of music in my final year at school, and how passionate I was about it. It was a way to express much of what was going on so I started to write, release and throw my work into the world.

"I just love connecting with people, particularly at the gigs I do. I've realised there are people for my songs so it was about finding my team and my support.

"I won two QLD music awards earlier this year including Emerging Artist of the Year at the Gold Coast Music Awards and I have received awesome support.

"I am passionate about writing what is real and being honest in telling those stories. 'Standards' is about my experiences with racism after moving from Tanzania when I was seven. There was a time when I doubted whether I was beautiful enough or good enough. I wasn't sure if I could do what others could or whether there would always be something limiting me. I've learnt now that I can choose between letting things define me or motivate me. It's so important to stand up for yourself and not lower your standards. My dream? To conquer the world! People love authentic stories and so I plan to keep telling them".

Thanks Beckah. You are bold, brave and beautiful. All the elements needed to conquer this world. It can take a long time to realise that our dreams are worth our obsession and I am in awe of who you are and all the stories you are yet to share with us. Limited? No! Limitless!
