The Gold Coast Historical Museum in Bundall kicked off 50th Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 24 July.
The expansive grounds, which include a small cemetery where pioneers involved with the Bundall Sugar Plantation are buried, were peppered with picnic-goers, period costumes and more.
Stalls included refreshments and scones, a sausage sizzle, raffles and Native Plants Gold Coast. Several stunning ikebana pieces created by Gillian Jones were on display.
Entertainment was provided by a choir from Trinity Lutheran College, who even treated families on the lawn to some bush poetry, reciting ‘The Man From Snowy River’. This was followed by a special impromptu performance - a touching operatic tribute to the late Paula Stafford, by her friend Phyllis Robertson. Local musician, Rob Saunders, played the sunny afternoon out to visitors enjoying the beautifully maintained gardens and lush lawns.
Plenty to see in the multi-venue complex including the Veivers Cottage and garden, early pioneering farming equipment, historical photographs, furniture and household items, even original Paula Stafford swimwear - this museum is full of local treasures all year round!
