Gold Coast Green Week 2019

What’s green, gold and celebrates our unique natural environment? The annual Gold Coast Green Week of course!

A 10-day calendar of environmental events, Gold Coast Green Week is set to enrich and inspire this year, with 45 events by 45 hosts happening around the city. Learn from passionate experts in their fields. Share in the magnificent work being done by local groups and individuals to preserve and protect our wonderfully diverse environment.

With 15 events unique to Green Week, you’ll want to mark your calendars! There are walks, talks and tours for all ages. Sidle up to nocturnal animals at ‘Creatures of the Dark’. Experience the interactive Wildlife Expo at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Or go on a bus tour of the Numinbah Valley and learn from an expert about its ecology.  Plus there will be koala tree planting, community beach cleans, a World Environment Day dinner and talks on a range of topics, from platypus to seagrass.

The calendar includes children’s activities from animal tours to science experiments and wildlife shows and activities. There citizen science programs and school sustainability sessions as well as open days, activities and presentations, just to mention a few.

Now in its seventh year, Green Week has gone from strength to strength. “The fact that we have 45 events included, speaks volumes of the environmental work that is done in our city,” Rosalinde Brinkman from Gold Coast Catchment Association says.

A new initiative to the Gold Coast, the School Sustainability Awards, also features in the program. Set to be a highlight on our city’s annual sustainability calendar, it encourages students to take a closer look at sustainability, specifically in their school. See our full piece on the initiative in this edition.

Gold Coast Green Week runs Friday, 31 May - Sunday, 9 June and is a collaboration between Gecko Environmental Council, Gold Coast Catchment Association and Surfrider Foundation Gold Coast/Tweed. Visit the website for the full program: goldcoastgreenweek.com.
