Nominations open for the 2023 Gold Coast Australian of the Year awards

The call has gone out for nominations for the 2023 Gold Coast Australian of the Year Awards.

They are presented annually in the categories of Gold Coast Australian of the Year, Gold Coast Senior Australian of the Year, Gold Coast Young Australian of the Year and Gold Coast Local Hero.

The awards are the city’s top civic honours and a proven pathway to success at the National Australia Day Council’s Australian of the Year Awards.

“The City of Gold Coast again wishes to recognise those people that are changing lives and our community for the better,” said Mayor Tom Tate.

“Those whose challenges and triumphs are in their life achievements, those who go above and beyond within their career achievements or those people who are simply champions in one way or another and have an impact on those around them.”

Last year’s Gold Coast Senior Australian of the Year, child protection campaigner and champion fundraiser Claude ‘The Mower Man’ Harvey, went on to win Queensland's 2022 Senior Australian of the Year, which was a hugely popular win.

Our 2022 Gold Coast Australian of the Year, eminent stroke researcher Dr Hal Rice, went on to be appointed an ambassador for Destination Gold Coast’s Business Events Connected Gold Coast program.

The 2022 Gold Coast Young Australian Bryce U’Ren and Gold Coast Local Hero Carly Fradgely continue to build on their amazing work respectively supporting young people with cancer and families in crisis.

“So, our message is if you appreciate the work someone does in our community and you feel they deserve acknowledgement, do something about it,” Mayor Tate said.

“It’s a great chance to reflect, respect and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our fellow Gold Coasters.”

The nomination process is easy and now open at cityofgoldcoast.com.au/gcawards

Nominations close on 2 April and the awards will be presented in June.
