Tourist in my town: School Holiday Camping ESKape

Ok, so it’s not quite in your backyard. But with the state borders not opening until after school holidays, if you are looking for a camping escape a little different to your usual beachside adventures this year, then Esk could be for you.

Just under a two-hour drive from the Gold Coast, Esk is a cute little village in the Somerset region with a lot to offer. Whether you have babies, older children, or furbabies, the campsite in Esk has something to keep everyone entertained.

The green and leafy Esk Caravan Park has cabins, ensuite sites, powered and unpowered sites. As well as a very nice camp kitchen equipped with gas-fired pizza ovens, a great seating area and a stone fireplace. It also has a heated outdoor pool and is only a few minutes walk from the small town.

Located in the middle of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, there is plenty of walking and biking to be done. If you don't have bikes you can hire them from the local bike hire shop (they even have electric bicycles if working up a sweat isn't really your thing). Esk is also very close to Wivenhoe and Somerset Dams, as well as the Brisbane River, which is perfect if you would rather explore by boat or canoe.

In town, there is an excellent playground next to the old Esk railway station, a small Friendly Grocer, two pubs and quite a few cafes — most of which are dog friendly. If you are in a spa mood, you’re in luck! Or rather your furry friend is, with the pooch pampering Fur Baby Boutique offering a wash and blowdry for just $10! There is a human equivalent too, with massages available at the Goddess Zone.
