Local label Summerland Records returns after their 10-year hiatus

Following an unofficial 10-year hiatus, Gold Coast label, artist and events development team, Summerland Records, resurrect to head back into the game with a belter of a national tour and epic hometown event at Dust Temple, Currumbin.

Independent Record Label, Summerland Records has been 10 years in the re-making.

This revival comes as good news for local musos, with Summerland Records dealing specifically with limited releases, tours and events. The likes of Hammers, Jason Brown, Tyrants and Widow the Sea to name a few have been on their books. Both currently, and throughout previous years

Striving to bring a sense of stability, security and comfort back to the Australian music industry and its artists, Summerland Records have returned with a bang.

So why the return?

The crew engaged and toured heavy rockers He Is Legend from North Carolina back in May 2023. It marked their first appearances in Australia in close to eight years.

A success on many levels, this tour also consequently doubled as the ultimate injection of vigour that Summerland Record owners, Lucas Stone and Rick Trewavas, needed. The 'He Is Legend' tour renewed Stone and Trewavas' vision for the label that was originally conceived years before.

Speaking about the Summerland Records return, Stone shares:

"The music industry needs a shake up. The current climate... it's just not sustainable. For both the musician and those who work with them. So for us, aside from delivering some killer tours, bridging the gap between our artists and the rest of the world, hosting boutique arts related events and slingin' releases from the biggest badasses around, our focus sits atop of the hill of change."

Revisit. Remodel. Restrategise. Rebuild. A handful of the old, wrapped up in a fist full o' new.

"Not 100% sure where that's gonna take us yet but we are pumped for the journey. Playing music is the most fun you can have with ya pants on, so if you love it the way we do, stay close.”

Over a decade since first conceiving Summerland Records, the mission remains the same. To keep the spirit of music exactly where it should be: in your hands, close by and in its highest quality form.

A record label and a hub for all things music, Summerland Records spans everything from live event bookings to helping musicians manoeuvre the music industry.

First and foremost, Summerland Records is an artist-first operation, run by musicians for musicians, under the blazing Australian sun.

Now officially back in full swing, Summerland Records is pleased to announce their first vinyl release, with Gold Coast post rockers HELM, fronted by Stone. This release also unveils their debut 2008 album 'Vol 1...Keelhaul' the first time everon limited edition vinyl.

Strictly limited to 200 copies, the 33rpm, 140gm vinyl features a double gatefold jacket and all lyrics and original artwork by Sam Haycroft.

To commemorate the return of Summerland Records, a special hometown launch event will also take place on Sunday 15 October at Dust Temple on the Gold Coast.

This marks the first of many planned industry networking events and music showcases. The official Summerland Records launch will feature pop-up shops by local, independent powerhouses such as Badlands Vinyl, Old Flame Label, Roadsick Apparel, Fortitude Brand, Padre Beer, Jamesco. As well as an art and music stalls stocked by badass local artists. There will also be various merch items provided by both Summerland, the Beats Cartel artist roster and more.

Head along for live, 90’s MTV Unplugged-inspired performances by Grace Drummond (Something Something Explosion), VERUM, Sunk Loto's Jay Brown. Plus, a very special one off reunion for HELM who will be performing select songs from all three records to cap things off, post sundown.

Local bass warlock and psychedelic party starter Jack Rabbit will kick off the afternoon filling any and all vacant space throughout the night, with his mind-bending funk-fuelled trip-hoppin’.

"We couldn’t be more excited about re-launching this label in 2023," enthuses Trewavas of the upcoming event.

"Summerland Records will be a touring company as well as a traditional label that releases music for bands we love. The aim is to work with artists that may be a bit more left of centre, or artists that don’t necessarily get the opportunities that they deserve. This event will be the perfect opportunity to kick things off and to meet with the local industry and music lovers in general."

The Summerland Records Launch Party kicks off at Dust Temple on Saturday 15 October, 2-8pm.

Tickets are strictly limited. For launch party tickets click here.
