They Might Be Giants return with 'Flood' live

They Might Be Giants return to Australia in October to celebrate their 1990 album 'Flood'.

“I have a secret to tell, from my electrical well.” I am a big They Might Be Giants Fan. Their songs soundtracked my university years and have continued to do so well into middle-age.

Their lyricism and humour, delivered with unexpected instruments, absurd themes, catchy melodies and absolute wit have captivated fans for decades. With 23 studio albums under their belt – some of them produced specifically for kids – and two Grammy Awards, this duo is the real deal. They’ve even been nominated for a Tony Award for the score they wrote for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical.

Their album ‘Flood’, released in 1990 has been certified platinum, and it’s that album they’re playing live when they return to Australia this year.

It’s not the first time they’ve celebrated that album through live shows. In May 2013, they also performed this album live in Australia – I remember witnessing one of two shows at The Zoo where they played ‘Flood’ back-to-front – which is not uncommon for the band. They also released the album ‘Flood Live in Australia’ in 2015 which plays the tracks in reverse order.

So what does the 2023 performance look like?

We’ve been promised their breakthrough album ‘Flood’ in its entirety, but of course, what that looks like is a bit vague because a They Might Be Giants show evolves every night.

TMBG will play two full sets that span the band's entire career from early favourites to brand new favourites from their current Grammy-nominated album ‘BOOK’, as well as the spontaneous and improvised moments that have made They Might Be Giants shows legendary.

Joined by their incomparable live band, now featuring the show-stopping Tricerachops Horns, the band is promising an evening guaranteed to delight the most dedicated TMBG fan as well as brand-newbies.

With 70+ sold-out shows so far in the US, and by overwhelming demand, it’s now our turn.

Tickets are on sale now and you can catch the incomparable duo at The Tivoli on Thursday 5 October.
