Single review: Sunny Luwe gets a li'l smoochy with 'Summer Kisses'

Pucker up, peeps. Sunny Luwe's smoochy new single 'Summer Kisses' is just the ticket when it comes to warming up on these cold winter days.

Co-written by Sunny and frequent collaborator Matt Collins of WHARVES, 'Summer Kisses' brings gentle, whimsical Corinne Bailey Rae vibes to its verses with a simple Jack Johnson-esque earworm of a chorus.

Sunny has struck gold once again with this chilled, romantic pop track. >>> Take a listen here

“I originally recorded Summer Kisses mid-2022 in the studio and I remember walking away with the song sounding unfinished, not right," says Sunny, a Weilwan woman and natural born storyteller

"So Matt and I pulled it apart. We ditched the studio recording, played with the tempo, the key and found a space that really conveyed the essence of the song - its true sweetness.”

The work has definitely paid off.

The feel-good vibes that are quickly becoming Sunny's trademark are perhaps at their most evident in this latest release, with her powerful vocals stripped back to an effortless and intimate croon that feels like she's speaking directly into your ear, backed by dreamy instrumentation with an irresistible groove.

Recently a finalist for the QMAs and a semi-finalist for the International Songwriting Competition, Sunny Luwe is going from strength to strength with her career, now regularly performing with her band around the Gold Coast.

In addition to producing great music, Sunny is also driven to create with the Earth in mind.

'Summer Kisses' was completely carbon offset. Inspired by others in the industry, Sunny decided to carbon offset her entire music project by supporting Nth Qld Conservation project, Rainforest 4.

“Rainforest 4 provides the highest quality carbon credit and does incredible work. I’m so grateful I can carbon offset through this means,” Sunny tells us, “I’m grateful that my guide (to carbon offset) can also help others to effect meaningful change too.” Read more about Sunny's offsetting guide here.

Instantly uplifting, 'Summer Kisses' is destined to become a road trip or beach hang staple that is best enjoyed sheltering under the shade of a palm tree of a warm, sunny, blue sky day.

If that's not on the cards right now, then a snuggle under blankets with your honey - while dreaming of a lazy beach holiday - will do just fine.

Catch Sunny and her 'Summer Kisses' live next Wednesday 7 June at Miami Marketta for a FREE, all ages show. If you can't make that one, she'll be performing with BEMAC on 23 June, and hitting up the Creekfest stage at Currumbin RSL on 25 June. Listen to 'Summer Kisses' here.
