Sunny Luwe releases bottled love letter 'Piece of Art' with lover Matt Collins

Gold Coast darling, and Weilwan woman, Sunny Luwe, wows with the delightfully romantic collaborative track, 'Piece of Art', ahead of her much-anticipated album launch, 'Flowers in The Sky' this October.

Igniting a symphony of dreaminess, 'Piece of Art' feels like kisses from the morning sun's first rays. Sweet harmonies meet bass lines reminiscent of fluttered heart beats that dance with celestial mellotron notes, embraced by nostalgic guitar strums.

This bottled love letter shimmers with an effortless, enduring charm.

'Piece of Art' launches today, 25 August!

The duet was co-written with partner Matt Collins (WHARVES, okmattcollins). Luwe and Matt originally met on Tinder.

"But COVID and living in other states kind of made that hard in the earlier days of us dating - borders were closing, I was on the Goldy, he was living in Northern NSW. We started 'officially' seeing each other after I came to one of his gigs at Dust Temple, which is pretty special, because we are hosting our double launch show there this October," says Sunny.

Frequent collaborators, Sunny and Matt wrote this track more than a year ago now.

"I feel we make a really great team. I got my family and friends to listen to the album, and 'Piece of Art' was my sister's favourite track. Being an independent artist, I have total control over my releases, so Matt and I thought it'd be a great drop as a single. It's a stunning track in its own right. I'm glad it's getting its time in the sun."

This single was recorded in Burleigh Heads' own Bignote Studios. But the songwriting process began much earlier.

"One night, Matt and I were chatting about the wonder of love, and how special it is. I feel like us becoming a couple was very fateful, and I love how life's ups and downs prior to that shaped me into the person I wanted to become."

The picture of #couplegoals, Sunny swoons over her own personal growth and Matt's qualities.

"I'm more loving and accepting and myself now. I remember the moment I decided that kindness was one of my favourite qualities in a person. That is Matt in spades. When we wrote 'Piece of Art', this conversation inspired the lyrics a lot. We also incorporated our one private little jokes into the song, which I think is pretty special."

When you open the heart-shaped locket of 'Piece of Art' with your first listen, you'll likely feel an affinity with The Beatles.

"I never really had a 'Beatles moment," Sunny confesses, "until Matt and I got together, however over the past year or so we have been listening to The Beatles a lot more... plus 60s and 70s music - I'm a bit obsessed."

"Also, witnessing Paul McCartney stumble upon 'Let It Be' in Get Back had a pretty profound effect on me. The Beatles has influenced a lot of the sonic choices in 'Flowers in the Sky.' Along with Nancy Sinatra, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, and some more modern sounds with Lenny Kravitz and Nelly Furtado."

The enchanting, love-induced track is an ode to the wonderment of love.

"Love is a big part of the album, because love is a big part of my life, but I would more say the album is an archive of my experiences over the last two years."

Sunny wrote 'Flowers in The Sky's title track 'FitS' in just ten minutes, inspired by a racy garden photoshoot her brother and his boyfriend did.

"The shoot was fabulous and cheeky, and I remember feeling so happy that my brother felt confident and loved enough to express his truest and fullest nature. What a beautiful thing. I'd love for every person of Earth to experience that feeling."

I would say the album is an archive of my experiences over the last two years. A couple of years ago, we saw Emily Wurramurra perform at The Zoo, and she used that expression to sum up her bodies of work. Each song or album becomes an archive of your life. Your experiences and inspirations, expressed through song. I thought that was a really beautiful way of putting it.

"When I write songs, I see it as my job or purpose to serve the song. It's the same as being a sculptor. The clay, the stone, already knows what it wants to be. You just have to listen. Listening is being still, connecting with your intuition, your inspiration, and combining that with a committed work ethic."

"The song already exists in a way, I just need to listen with pure intention, follow my intuition and serve the song the best way I can."

Catch Sunny Luwe and Matt Collins at their upcoming double launch show, The Stars Align, in October. Matt is releasing his second EP, 'Keep The Flames Alive,' recorded with George Carpenter. While Sunny will debut the full 'Flowers in The Sky' album, featuring exclusive performances of songs that aren't usually played in regular sets.

Plus, the weekend of 'The Stars Align' coincides with Matt and Sunny's birthdays, so there will be cake too!
