Australian music marketing agency Mojobullet is being relaunched in May 2023 after a three year hiatus, and it’s returning bigger and better than ever.
The agency, which is owned and operated by Emily Holler, is dedicated to helping independent musicians build successful careers on their own terms, and offers a somewhat unconventional approach to music marketing.
Rather than immediately shooting for Spotify streams and media placements, Mojobullet is laser focused on helping artists build their audience and work towards making a profit in their business by taking an entrepreneurial approach to their career.
Holler’s mission is to make the music industry a more level playing field for independent artists, by empowering them with effective and affordable strategies to grow their own enterprise. It’s an approach that she hopes will become more mainstream in the years to come.
‘I take a very holistic approach to my work with artists’, says Emily. ‘I coach them to develop entrepreneurial skills and empower them with powerful marketing strategies that are tried and tested across other industries, but not as commonly used by musicians and labels.’
‘There is a lot of information in the market for independent musicians to digest; and while lots of organisations offer helpful services, there are few that teach artists to build a profitable and sustainable business step-by-step,’ says Holler.
Mojobullet doesn’t offer traditional PR, instead providing marketing services that include digital advertising, sales funnels, e-commerce and email marketing, which Emily insists are more cost effective for independent artists, particularly those who are emerging.
Additionally, she doesn’t recommend jumping straight into marketing if the artist isn’t ready. ‘I apply due diligence with every client, says Em. ‘There are 3 pillars that form a strong career foundation, and these have to be addressed before I even consider marketing.’
A key focus at Mojobullet is wellness, mindset and lifestyle. ‘It’s vital for artists to have the right mindset to enable their success. Stress management and healthy lifestyle choices are also a big focus in my work’, says Em. ‘I have learned the importance of this myself, the hard way.’
Mojobullet primarily operates from Emily’s home office in the Northern Rivers of NSW, however she works 1 day every week from the GYROstream office in Brisbane, QLD and is available at the Gold Coast by appointment.
‘I’m really glad to be returning to the music industry after an interesting few years’, says Em. ‘As things were shutting down due to the Covid pandemic, music was one of the first industries to start collapsing. Mojobullet was just a side hustle at that time and I had to shut it down.’
‘I took a job managing a funeral home and spent two years arranging and conducting funerals, and working in a mortuary. It was a very unique experience. I learned a lot from it and I am bringing newfound knowledge and wisdom to the new and improved Mojobullet.’
Holler is a passionate advocate for indie artists. With more than two decades immersed in the music business, her experience is anchored in major events, independent label operations, touring, marketing and artist mentoring.
