Gold Coast gets first ever Containers for Change reverse vending kiosk

Local residents will now be able to recycle their empty drink containers at the Gold Coast’s first ever Containers for Change TOMRA reverse vending kiosk, located at Stocklands Burleigh Heads.

The new convenient recycling kiosk is part of Queensland’s ever-expanding Containers for Change recycling scheme and are designed and operated by leading return point operator TOMRA Collection.

It is the first of several new reverse vending kiosks, all set to be located within the carparks of shopping centres across the Gold Coast and Brisbane areas.

The new reverse vending kiosks will each offer recyclers four fully automated reverse vending machines that are open 14 hours a day, seven days a week.

Each kiosk offers recyclers the choice of a retail cash refund or a direct digital transfer to PayPal or your bank account within hours. Customers also have the opportunity to support their local community and charity groups by donating their refunds at each of TOMRA’s new reverse vending kiosks.

Using scheme ID barcodes, customers can select one of hundreds of participating Containers for Change charities, with 100 per cent of the selected refunds donated going directly to the chosen organisation.

President of TOMRA Collection Ryan Buzzell said the new kiosks will provide south-east Queensland more recycling points than ever before.

“We’re so excited to offer Gold Coast residents this new, highly convenient and accessible recycling solution,” he said. “Not only will this give locals new ways to help protect their environment, it will also provide the opportunity to earn some extra money or donate it to those who need it most – and all whilst they are doing their weekly shop,” said Mr Buzzell.

The new return sites are part of the network of over 330 return points in Queensland’s Containers for Change scheme.

“We are thrilled to be expanding the Queensland network and especially in the Gold Coast region,” said Containers for Change Chief Executive Officer Ken Noye. “These new reverse vending kiosks will make it more convenient than ever and give locals the opportunity to do their bit to reduce container litter and increase recycling, while earning a reward at the same time,” said Mr Noye.

The first of the new return points is located in the carpark of Stockland Burleigh Heads is open from 7am – 9pm Mon – Sat and 9am – 6pm on Sundays.
