Free trees to help green our city

City of Gold Coast is handing out free trees to residents, schools and community groups in an effort to add to the abundance of green in our beautiful city.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate recently joined Cr Cameron Caldwell to launch the 2021-22 ‘free tree giveaway’ at Runaway Bay.

“In the past nine years, we have planted more than 670,000 trees across our city,’’ Mayor Tate said.

“Residents, and volunteer groups, play a huge part in helping green our city. Council is delighted to play its role by providing free trees.

“For the first six months of next year, we have listed locations where residents can collect their free trees (8am-2pm). I encourage everyone to play their part in helping us keep the city green.’’

Cr Caldwell said the city was determined to ensure our magical ‘green behind the gold’ remained.

“Providing these free trees is a simple gesture and helps people enjoy planting trees in their gardens,’’ he said.

“We all want to ensure the city has more shade and more greenery. I encourage everyone to get their allocation of trees over the next six months.’’

The pick-up locations are:

The allocation is: three trees per household (rate notice to be shown); 10 trees per Body Corporate; and 50 trees per school or community group.
