The first annual Worthy Women Summit will head to the Gold Coast on 11 and 12 March, raising funds for Global Glamping Charities to help homeless people affected by domestic violence.
Jo Worthy, also known as The Worthy Woman, has since learned to re-discover her own worth, lives a life of purpose and is now passionate about helping others do the same. She has also become a speaker specialising in worthiness and courage and an author of multiple books, including 'Love Worthy - 21 Lessons in Creating a Deliciously Divine Life'.
“In 1998, two weeks before Christmas, I was on the verge of being homeless after a relationship break up with a severely abusive partner,” Mrs Worthy said.
“If I didn’t have my mother and my step father to support me at the time, I would not have known what to do with myself and my four year old daughter who was about to start school.
“Unfortunately, a lot of women do not have family support or anywhere to turn when leaving an abusive relationship.
“This is exactly why I’m so passionate about helping women who have suffered or are suffering from domestic violence in any form or have lost their zest for life.
“Some women’s self worth is so low they can’t work, their mental health and wellbeing is so affected they feel stuck and lack so much confidence.”
A 2020 report by Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG) and Social Ventures Australia found that the number of older women at risk of homelessness in Australia was a staggering 405,000.
This includes 165,000 women aged between 45 to 55 years and 240,000 women aged 55 years and over.
“They often go through divorce, have no super, no financial security, end up on very low income and are at a big risk of homelessness,” she said.
“My wish for women is to go home after the summit and shift their life for the better and embrace parts of themselves they have not believed in or have neglected. I want women to feel re-ignited in their business, self love and life. To live their best life and strive to be the best version of themselves. We’ve got one life, let’s make the most of it. Let’s stop living in misery and mediocrity and live our most divine lives possible.”
The Worthy Women Summit celebrates International Women’s Week and includes 10 speakers from four states who will empower, motivate and inspire women to live their best lives.
The speakers include She D’Montford, Denna Szwajkowski and Aldwyn Altuney from the Gold Coast; Charli Fels from Brisbane, Jo Worthy from Sunshine Coast; Liesel Albrecht from country Victoria, MC/ speaker Sondre Callec from Melbourne; PJ Ashley from ACT; Vanessa Lovell from Yass, NSW, and Vanessa Talbot from Orange, NSW.
There will also be soulful performances by sound healer Michelle Guihot from the Gold Coast and musician/ sound healer Mignon Lee-Warden from Wollongong. The Summit will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Surfers Paradise on March 11 to 12 from 8.30am to 5pm.
