HOTA welcomes new Gallery Director

HOTA, Home of the Arts is delighted to announce the appointment of Susi Muddiman OAM as Gallery and Visual Arts Director.

Our much loved arts and culture precinct, HOTA, has a new Gallery Director. Just wait until you check out Susi Muddiman's impressive background, experience and talents.

Susi combines her passion and knowledge for arts with her visionary approach. She comes to HOTA with over 20 years experience in leading regional galleries. Actually, Susi is currently the Director of the Tweed Regional Gallery (TRG) and Margaret Olley Art Centre. She's held this role since 2007.

Before that, Susi was the Director of Wagga Wagga Art Gallery and Grafton Regional Gallery. So there's no wonder why she's a highly regarded leader of the gallery sector in Australia. Now she's bringing her strong interest in promoting visual arts and commitment to enhancing gallery performance directly to HOTA.

"I am thrilled to accept this exciting role and look forward to building on HOTA Gallery's stellar reputation and program. I'm a fan and have been a regular visitor to the HOTA Precinct. Now I can't wait to work with such a dynamic team," said Susi Muddiman.

The award-winning HOTA Gallery is the largest regional gallery in Australia. It was opened to great acclaim in May 2021. Since then, HOTA has hosted a diverse range of exhibitions across five world-class gallery spaces and welcomed almost 500,000 visitors.

Mayor Tom Tate shared his sentiments on the appointment, "We look forward to welcoming Susi to the Gold Coast, and we are sure she will make a significant contribution to the continual development of our arts and culture through her leadership of the HOTA Gallery."

Susi's appointment comes at an exciting phase of growth as HOTA moves closer to becoming part of the new entity, Experience Gold Coast (EGC).

"EGC and HOTA will play an integral part of the city's focus on cultural tourism. We know that Susi will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide the gallery as it embarks on even more ambitious initiatives," says Rob Borbidge, Chair of EGC.

"Susi brings an enviable track record of curatorial expertise and passion. Combined with her collection management and Gallery operations experience, this made her a perfect fit for HOTA. I know she will quickly become an integral member of the HOTA family, and we can't wait to welcome her to our Home of The Arts," said Mik Auckland, HOTA's Interim CEO.

HOTA notes that Susi was a standout applicant in an impressive list of candidates from across Australia, and will formally commence the role on 13 November 2023.
