Site and Situation is a free three-part public art series featuring invited national arts professionals delivering thought-provoking public art talks and industry workshops. Site and Situation is a City of Gold Coast initiative, curated by SWELL Sculpture.
This series will invite discussion around three curated themes:
• How Public Art Can Help Communities with Disaster Recovery
• The Role of a Public Art Curator
• The Politics of Place
Site and Situation will welcome arts industry legends, Troy Casey and Amanda Hayman (Blaklash), Scotia Monkivitch (Creative Recovery Network), Judy Watson (Artist) and Delvene Cockatoo-Collins (Artist) to the Gold Coast to share their knowledge.
The public forums will explore how public art can support, inspire and help to rebuild communities during disaster recovery, the role of a public art curator, and First Nations learnings on the politics of place. The workshops will focus on the sharing of practical and industry knowledge around each facilitator’s expertise.
Each forum is delivered over two free sessions:
• Day one is an evening public art forum, registration is essential as tickets are limited.
• Day two is an industry workshop for Gold Coast based artists, curators, and cultural producers, selected via an expression of interest process.
